Wenlido (Self-defense workshop)

The term Wenlido combines “wen” (a shortened form of “women”), “li” (meaning strength in Chinese), and “do” (meaning “the way” or “the method” in certain oriental languages). Together, it symbolizes “the path to strength for women.” Wenlido is a psycho-physical system designed to promote personal safety, focusing on feminist principles. It empowers women not only physically but also emotionally and psychologically, helping them defend themselves against violence and abuse. The program integrates personal safety into intimate relationships and encourages self-empowerment.

In India, there is a select group of only 100 Wenlido trainers, and five of these skilled trainers are part of MJAS. These trainers have empowered more than 1500 rural girls in self-defense and extended their expertise to other organizations, including the Women Police Academy, Action Aid, and various engineering colleges across Rajasthan. This expansion is helping spread the message of personal safety and empowerment to a wider audience.
